Technology focused: Prometheus provides tech and data support. A successful project should be in this space, including projects related to websites, web and mobile applications, data and analytics and automation.
Clear scope of work: The goals and outcomes of a successful project can be well defined by your team, and the needs of the project are unlikely to change throughout the engagement. Projects should be finite, with a clear start and end to them.
Longer term objectives: Our tech talent network has limited time dedicated to your project. Projects that are urgent or require full time support are unlikely to be a good fit.
Subject matter expertise: The volunteers working on the project will have technology expertise, but are unlikely to have working knowledge of your cause or operations. Successful projects should not require this type of intimate knowledge of your organization.
Team support and buy-in: Although Prometheus provides project management for each engagement, your team will still need to provide support to ensure goals are being met, and questions are being answered. A successful project will have a dedicated point-person from your team to provide this.
Only nonprofits with access to the Prometheus Platform can submit projects. Once you have access to the platform, click the 'Submit a Project' menu option.
Here are the key milestones we track during a Prometheus project:
Scope Technical Projects: After submitting a project, Prometheus works with you refine the scope of your technical project, including required skill sets, key deliverable dates, technical and/or budget constraints, and tooling requirements.
Project Matching & Development: Prometheus will use the information provided to match the scoped project based on key factors such as skill, interests, and availability. Once projects are matched, we will lead an informational kick-off between the social good organization and technical talent. Prometheus will then provide project management support for the duration of the project.
Project Delivery: When projects are finalized, Prometheus will host a virtual demo where the technical talent will walk you through the solution and supporting training materials or documentation they have provided.
The primary point of contact on a project should expect to dedicate up to 2 hours per week through the duration of the project for addressing questions, providing feedback, supporting implementation of your project, and meetings. These scheduled meetings include:
• A one-time, 60 minute project kick-off meeting
• A one-time, 60 minute project delivery meeting
• 30 minute weekly meetings, as needed to address questions or get feedback
It is a best practice to respond to emails and messages within 2 business days from your Prometheus Project Manager and your talent match. Your Prometheus Project Manager should be included in ongoing communication between you and the talent.
Prometheus will interview and match your project with the right member of our talent network as well as provide a project manager to support day to day needs.
We will ask that your team dedicate a point person to be part of scheduled project check-ins and answer questions directly in case they come up.
Our tech talent network consists of students and professionals in technology fields including data science, computer science, and design.
With this subject matter expertise, Prometheus supports your technology needs across multiple project types including:
1. Websites: A website project consists of creating web pages and websites, or make more significant updates to existing sites. Developers can use low-code platforms so your team can make real-time changes in the future. This is a great project for nonprofits looking to design and develop a new website or implement specific experiences or features (e.g. impact page, resource library, blogs, and more).
2. Applications: With a web or mobile application project, our network can design and develop an experience from scratch or work within your existing applications to update features or build a new one. Application projects are great for nonprofits looking to provide their products or services digitally, for example interactive maps, client intake, product inventories, or member portals.
3. Workflow Automation: Automate manual tasks to support your operations or develop integrations to help your internal systems communicate. This type of project is great if you are looking to spend less time on processes such as email outreach or status updates and notifications to your teammates, or enable the internal systems your team uses to communicate with one another (e.g. connecting your website to your CRM, or spreadsheets to your business intelligence tool, so all of your information can be viewed in one place).
4. Data and Analytics: A data or analytics project will allow you to analyze your data, support data storage and collection through developing or updating databases, or create dashboards and reports. For example, condensing spreadsheets into a centralized database, or creating data visualizations such as analytics dashboards showcasing your impact.
