Problem
CareerSpring leverages an online Career Platform that supports many resources and services for low-income and first-generation college students. One resource they wanted to provide was a career interest finder tool to highlight and recommend career paths to students.
Previously, they hosted a version of this resource through their WordPress website, but when WordPress pushed system updates, the career interest finder would break or become unavailable.
Solution
As part of a Prometheus Capstone Program, Web Development Fellows from The Knowledge House built the career interest finder on a standalone React application, matching the look and feel of CareerSpring’s existing website. The team also integrated the application with Google Sheets so the organization can track and view students’ results.
The new website is now unaffected by WordPress updates and provides a seamless experience for students to take surveys and receive personalized career suggestions based on their interests.
“My experience working on this non-profit project assured me that I am able to navigate and work on critical deadlines. [It also] has raised my confidence in my ability to work on tasks I didn't have any prior knowledge of.” - (Web Development Fellow, The Knowledge House)
