Problem

  • CareerSpring leverages an online Career Platform that supports many resources and services for low-income and first-generation college students. One resource they wanted to provide was a career interest finder tool to highlight and recommend career paths to students.

  • Previously, they hosted a version of this resource through their WordPress website, but when WordPress pushed system updates, the career interest finder would break or become unavailable.

Solution

  • As part of a Prometheus Capstone Program, Web Development Fellows from The Knowledge House built the career interest finder on a standalone React application, matching the look and feel of CareerSpring’s existing website. The team also integrated the application with Google Sheets so the organization can track and view students’ results.

  • The new website is now unaffected by WordPress updates and provides a seamless experience for students to take surveys and receive personalized career suggestions based on their interests.
