Problem
KConnect is a collective movement aimed at ensuring all children in Kent County have an equitable path to economic prosperity through quality education, family, and community support. Measuring and assessing progress towards economic prosperity in the communities they serve is done through a public-facing analytics dashboard on their website.
However, the existing dashboard is complex and requires knowledge of or experience with the data, preventing KConnect from sharing compelling stories on their impact and for the community from using it to its fullest capacity.
Solution
As part of a Prometheus Capstone Program, User Experience Design Fellows from The Knowledge House redesigned the organization’s analytics dashboard to better communicate where Kent County stands as a community.
The team conducted a needs assessment for the future dashboard through interviews and surveys of end-user groups. They also executed an end-to-end heuristic evaluation for the current dashboard to identify user satisfaction, usability issues, and areas of improvement. Using their research as a blueprint, the fellows designed high-fidelity wireframes of the future dashboard for the organization to implement.
“For a while, I struggled with self-doubt and uncertainty about my abilities… One of the most significant experiences has been working on a real, pro-bono project with Prometheus... We collaborated with a non-profit organization that is making a tangible difference in their community - an endeavor that resonates deeply with me.” - (User Experience Design Fellow, The Knowledge House)
