Privacy Policy

Join Prometheus Partners, Inc., a Delaware nonstock non-profit corporation (“Prometheus,” “we,” “us,” and “our”), provides a service (the “Service”) through which non-profit organizations connect with pro bono technology students or professionals  (independently or via their employers and educational institutions) to match clients’ needs with volunteer talent skills and abilities to conduct mutually agreed upon pro bono technology projects for the benefit of clients and any learning and development goals of the employers and educational institutions and volunteer talent if applicable (each a “Project”).

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) describes and governs Prometheus’s collection, use, and sharing of personal information through your use of the Prometheus website at www.joinprometheus.org (the “Website”) and the Prometheus platform  at www.app.joinprometheus.org, materials, tools, and functionality provided by us in connection with the Website, the Service generally, and your participation in any Project (collectively, the “Prometheus Platform Service”). 


Before you use or submit any personal information through or in connection with the Prometheus Platform Service, please carefully review this Policy. By using any part of the Prometheus Platform Service, regardless of how you access the Prometheus Platform Service, you consent to the collection, use, and disclosure of your personal information as further outlined in this Policy. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THIS POLICY, PLEASE DO NOT USE THE PROMETHEUS PLATFORM SERVICE. We will continue to evaluate this Policy as we update and expand the Prometheus Platform Service and our offerings, and we may make changes to the Policy accordingly. Any changes will be posted here and you should check this page periodically for updates. If we make material changes to this Policy, we will provide you with notice as required by law or as we deem appropriate. Your continued use of the Prometheus Platform Service will signify acceptance of the terms of the updated Policy.


Undefined capitalized terms used herein shall have the definitions as set forth in our Terms of Use.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information about you in multiple ways, including when you provide personal information directly to us, and when we passively collect information from you, such as from your browser or device.

1. Information You Provide Directly to Us

 

We may collect personal information including, but not limited to (i) name and username; (ii) email address; (iii) mailing address; (iv) phone number; (v) workplace information; (vi) interest areas; (vii) skills; and (viii) CV and/or resume (including educational information), you provide directly to us in a variety of ways, such as when you:

  • Contact us through our Website

  • Register for a user account (as an individual or through an employer or educational institution);

  • Become a client (nonprofit organizations) or connect with a client to provide pro bono technology services for the benefit of a client;

  • Otherwise communicate with us, such as via email.

 

You are not required to provide us with your personal information to access the Website; however, you may need to create a user account or otherwise provide us with your personally identifiable information in order to use and access certain aspects of the Prometheus Platform Service. 

 

2. User-Generated Content

You may be able to upload comments, feedback, Project tracking or other content and related information, including personal information in connection with your use of the Prometheus Platform Service (collectively, “User Content”). User Content may be publicly available, and we cannot limit how others may use such User Content. By contributing User Content, you agree that you are at least 18 years old; own, control, or otherwise have the rights to such User Content; and your User Content does not infringe or violate the rights of any third parties. You hereby grant us a non- exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual, transferable, irrevocable, and fully sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, assign, translate, create derivative works from, distribute and display any User Content in whole or in part developed in connection with the Prometheus Platform Services and Prometheus marketing, advertising and promotional activities.

3. Information that Is Passively or Automatically Collected

i. Device/Usage Information

 

We may automatically collect certain information about the computer or devices (including mobile devices or tablets) you use to access the Prometheus Platform Service. As described further below, we may collect and analyze information such as (a) IP addresses, location information, unique device identifiers, IMEI and TCP/IP address, and other information about your computer or device(s), browser types, browser language, operating system, mobile device carrier information, the state or country from which you accessed the Prometheus Platform Service; and (b) information related to the ways in which you interact with the Prometheus Platform Service, such as: referring and exit web pages and URLs, platform type, the number of clicks, domain names, landing pages, pages and content viewed and the order of those pages, statistical information about the use of the Prometheus Platform Service, the amount of time spent on particular pages, the date and time you used the Prometheus Platform Service, the frequency of your use of the Prometheus Platform Service, error logs, and other similar information. As described further below, we may use third-party analytics providers and technologies, including cookies and similar tools, to assist in collecting this information.

​ii. Cookies and Other Electronic Technologies

 

We may also collect data about your use of the Prometheus Platform Service through the use of Internet server logs, cookies and/or tracking pixels. A web server log is a file where website activity is stored. A cookie is a small text file that is placed on your computer when you visit a website, that enables us to: (a) recognize your computer; (b) store your preferences and settings; (c) understand the web pages of the Prometheus Platform Service you have visited; (d), enhance your user experience by delivering content and advertisements specific to your inferred interests; (e) perform searches and analytics; and (f) assist with security administrative functions. Some cookies are placed in your browser cache while those associated with Flash technologies are stored with your Adobe Flash Player files. Tracking pixels (sometimes referred to as web beacons or clear GIFs) are tiny electronic tags with a unique identifier embedded in websites, online ads and/or email, and that are designed to provide usage information like ad impressions or clicks, measure popularity of the Prometheus Platform Service and associated advertising, and to access user cookies. We also may include Web beacons in email messages, newsletters and other electronic communications to determine whether the message has been opened and for other analytics, personalization and advertising. As we adopt additional technologies, we may also gather additional information through other methods.

 

Please note that you can change your settings to notify you when a cookie is being set or updated, or to block cookies altogether. Please consult the "Help" section of your browser for more information (e.g., Internet Explorer; Microsoft Edge; Google Chrome; Mozilla Firefox; or Apple Safari). You can also manage the use of Flash technologies, including cookies and local storage objects with the Flash management tools available at Adobe's website. Please note that by blocking any or all cookies, you may not have access to certain features or offerings of the Platform.

 

iii. Information from Social Networking Sites and Other Third Parties

 

Social networking sites, such as LinkedIn, have their own policies for handling your information. For a description of how these sites may use and disclose your personal information, including any information you make public, please consult the sites' privacy policies. We have no control over how any third-party site uses or discloses the personal information it collects about you.

 

We may also collect personal information about you or others through non-affiliated third parties. For example, to the extent permitted by law, we may, in our sole discretion, ask for and collect supplemental personal information from third parties, such as information to verify your identity or trustworthiness, or for other fraud or safety protection purposes. We may combine personal information that we collect from you through the Prometheus Platform Service with information that we obtain from such third parties.

2. How We Use Your Information

We may use the personal information we collect from and about you for the following purposes:

  • For the purposes for which you provided it;

  • To register, recognize and authenticate you on the Prometheus Platform Service;

  • To initiate or to provide the features and services available through the Prometheus Platform;

  • To communicate with you about the Prometheus Platform Service and our organization, for example, by using your email address to email you;

  • To facilitate and coordinate Projects;

  • To process and respond to your inquiries or to request your feedback;

  • For internal research and reporting;

  • To improve the content and features of the Prometheus Platform Service or develop new services;

  • To comply with policies, audits and applicable laws;

  • To transfer information to others as described in this Policy;

  • To provide aggregated analytics for business purposes and business intelligence to educational institutions, employers and funders;

  • For general or targeted marketing and advertising purposes;

  • To fulfill contracts that we have with you;

  • To enforce the Terms of Use, relevant Terms and Conditions and any other agreement that governs your use of the Prometheus Platform Service; 

  • To administer and troubleshoot the Prometheus Platform Service; and

  • For any other purposes disclosed to you at the time we collect your information and/or pursuant to your consent.

 

We may aggregate and/or de-identify personal information collected about you and may use such de-identified and/or aggregated information for any purpose, including without limitation for research and marketing purposes, and may also share such de-identified data with any third parties.

3. When We Disclose Your Information

We will not sell or licence personal identifying information. We may disclose and/or share your personal information to or with any non-affiliated third parties under the following circumstances:

  • Consent. We may disclose your personal information to any third parties based on your consent to do so.

  • In Connection with Projects.  We may share your personal information with a client, an employer/educational/funder institution or another individual involved in a Project on which you are providing pro bono services to facilitate the Project.  

  • Service Providers. We may provide access to or share your personal information with select third parties who perform certain functions for the Prometheus Platform Service on our behalf, including without limitation host the Prometheus Platform Service, manage databases, perform analyses, process credit card payments, provide customer service, marketing, market research, data storage, analysis and processing, and legal Prometheus Platform Service, or send communications for us.

  • Protection of Prometheus and Others. We may share your personal information: (a) to comply with legal process; (b) to enforce this Policy or other contracts with you, including investigation of potential violations thereof; (c) to respond to claims that any content violates the rights of third parties; and/or (d) to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Prometheus, its users and Project participants and the public. This includes exchanging personal information with other companies and organizations for fraud protection, spam/malware prevention, and similar purposes.

  • Organizational Transfers. Your personal information may be transferred, sold, or otherwise conveyed to a third party if we: (i) merge with or are acquired by another entity; (ii) sell all or substantially all of our assets; (iii) are adjudicated bankrupt; or (iv) are liquidated or otherwise reorganize.

4. Online Analytics

We may use third-party web analytics services (such as those of Google Analytics) in connection with the Prometheus Platform Service to collect and analyze the information discussed above, and to engage in auditing, research or reporting. The information (including your IP address) collected by various analytics technologies described in the “Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies” section will be disclosed to or collected directly by these service providers, who use the information to evaluate your use of the Platform, including by noting the third-party website from which you arrive, analyzing usage trends, assisting with fraud prevention, and providing certain features to you. If you receive email from us, we may use certain analytics tools, such as clear GIFs, to capture data such as when you open our message or click on any links or banners our email contains. This data allows us to gauge the effectiveness of our communications and marketing campaigns.

5. Your Choices

All users can review and update certain user information by emailing us at info@joinprometheus.org. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails by clicking the "unsubscribe" link they contain.  See also Notice to Residents of Certain U.S. States.

6. Children’s Privacy

The Prometheus Platform Service is intended for general audiences and not for children under the age of 13.  If we become aware that we have collected personal information (as defined by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) from children under the age of 13, we will take reasonable steps to delete it as soon as practicable.

7. Security

We have implemented administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect against the loss, misuse, and/or alteration of your personal information. These safeguards vary based on the sensitivity of the information that we collect and store. However, we cannot and do not guarantee that these measures will prevent every unauthorized attempt to access, use, or disclose your personal information since despite our efforts, no Internet and/or other electronic transmissions can be completely secure.

8. Data Retention

We will hold your personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes set forth in this Policy or as long as we are legally required or permitted to do so. Personal information may persist in copies made for backup and business continuity purposes for additional time.

9. Third-Party Links

The Prometheus Platform Service may contain links to or “frame” third-party websites, applications, and other services, including links to websites affiliated with clients, funder institutions, employers and educational organizations participating in a Project with you or clients looking for pro bono talent. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the privacy practices of such other sites and services. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our Prometheus Platform Service and to read the privacy statements of each and every site they visit that collects their information.

In addition, from our Website you may be able to interact with social media sites (“Social Media Platforms”), for example, by “following” us on LinkedIn. If you choose to click on a link to one of these third-party websites or choose to interact with or through a Social Media Platform, your activities are not governed by this Policy and will be governed by the privacy policy on that third-party website or Social Media Platform. Please review their privacy policies and terms of service before disclosing any personal information there. We do not review, do not endorse, and are not responsible for the privacy practices of these third-party websites and Social Media Platforms.

We may also maintain a Prometheus page on LinkedIn or other Social Media Platforms. Those pages and your interaction with them are governed by the privacy policies of LinkedIn or other relevant Social Media Platforms, and not this Policy. As with other third-party websites, we do not endorse and are not responsible for the privacy practices of these forums, although we may have a presence on them

10. Notice to Residents of Certain U.S. States

Residents of certain U.S. states may have rights and choices regarding their personal information. To the extent any data protection law applies to our collection of your personal information, this supplemental section of our Policy outlines the individual rights you may be entitled to and how to exercise those rights.  

 

Depending on where you live and subject to certain exceptions, you may have some or all of the following rights:

  • Right to know and access.  You may have the right to request that we confirm whether we process your personal information, and to request information about our collection and use of your personal information, including whether we sell your personal information. You also have the right to request access to personal information we may process about you.  

  • Right to data portability. Subject to certain exceptions, you may have the right to request and obtain a copy of your personal information that you previously provided to us in a portable format. In addition, to the extent technically feasible, you may have the right to obtain your personal information in a readily usable format that allows you to transmit the personal information to another data controller without hindrance. 

  • Right to request correction of inaccuracies.  To the extent that we may maintain inaccurate personal information, you may have the right to request that we correct such inaccurate personal information, taking into account the nature of the personal information and the purposes of the processing of the personal information.  

  • Right to request deletion. You may have the right to request that we delete certain personal information or records provided by or obtained about you, with certain exceptions and limitations as allowed under law.  

  • Right to obtain a list of the categories of third parties to which personal information has been disclosed. You may have the right to obtain a list of the categories of third parties to which we have disclosed your personal information.

  • Right to obtain a list of specific third parties to which personal information has been disclosed. At our option, you may have the right to obtain a list of specific third parties, other than natural persons, to which we have disclosed your personal information.

  • Right to non-discrimination. You may have a right to not be discriminated against in the Prometheus Platform Services or quality of Prometheus Platform Services you receive from us for exercising your rights. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of your rights in this section including denying Prometheus Platform Services, charging different prices or rates for Prometheus Platform Services, or providing a different level of quality of Prometheus Platform Services. 

  • Right to appeal.  You may have the right to appeal our denial of any request you make under this section. To exercise your right to appeal, please submit an appeal request to info@joinprometheus.org. Within the certain timeframe of receipt of your appeal, as proscribed by the applicable law, we will inform you in writing of any action taken or not taken in response to your appeal, including a written explanation of the reasons for the decisions. If we deny your appeal, you may contact the Attorney General or applicable authority in your state, which we will help you identify. 

 

To learn more about whether you are guaranteed certain rights, or to submit a request to exercise your rights, please contact us using any of the methods in the Questions about This Policy section. If permitted by the applicable data protection law, you may use an authorized agent to submit requests on your behalf provided that the authorized agent is a natural person or a business entity that you have authorized to act on your behalf. If you use an authorized agent, we will require: (1) proof of written permission for the authorized agent to make requests on your behalf, and identity verification from you; or (2) proof of power of attorney pursuant under applicable law. We may deny a request from an authorized agent that does not submit proper verification proof.that does not submit proper verification proof.
