Strengthening Support Networks for Children with Dyslexia
How Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children increased resource access for families through an online directory
The Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children is on a mission to eliminate the amplified inequities for Black children experiencing unaddressed dyslexia and related learning disabilities. Families frequently turned to this nonprofit to find local and online resources for their children. However, the organization had no easy way to share these resources with their community. Often, staff would conduct individual Google searches for each family inquiry and email the results. To increase access, The Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children identified the need to streamline this process and directly connect families to support tools.
The organization turned to Prometheus to bring their resources online, recognizing that their small team lacked the time and technical capacity to complete the project on their own. “For over a year, we hoped to build a dedicated page to house our resource directory, but as a small team, we simply didn’t have the capacity to bring it to life. Thanks to the partnership with Prometheus, and with…thoughtful leadership and project management, we were finally able to make it happen.” (Resha Conroy, Executive Director)
Prometheus matched The Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children to a computer science student who created a comprehensive digital resource directory on their Wix website. Families and caregivers can now access essential resources by type and location in a centralized place, eliminating the need for lengthy, back-and-forth email exchanges.
In the first two months since launching, this resource directory has strengthened engagement across The Dyslexia Alliance for Black Children’s network. During this time, the guide attracted 307 unique visits and drove a 137% increase in overall website visitors compared to the previous 90-day period. It has also sparked new partnerships with community organizations that have proactively requested to be included, broadening the ecosystem of support and making it easier for families to find the critical services they need.
